How Do You PB&J?

There are some things you do without even thinking about it, like putting on your shoes, or brushing your teeth. But what shoe do you put on first and how do you tie the laces? Do you brush your top teeth or bottom teeth first? The same could be asked about making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. White or wheat bread? Crunchy or smooth peanut butter? Life is filled with big and difficult decisions, so sometimes it’s fun just to focus on the small and every day, the ones that come easy, that have been determined and routine for years.

Take this poll about your own preferences for a PB&J — and find out how what you do compares with other people! Together we’ll create a sandwich-eating picture of America!

Author annotation:

Can something as simple as sandwich preferences become a divisive point of discussion and identity? In this very simple poll, I wanted to create something interactive to give readers a chance to be a part of the content, and make their own mark on the Translation issue of Unfiltered. In it together, I wanted to show how individual preferences contribute to a larger picture of the community, that changes with every visitor clicking through. Also, it naturally gives polltakers a chance to reflect — will they be thrilled to be a part of an underdog fanbase, or feel relief to be a part of the majority? Does forcing you into a choice create a new aspect of your identity, something new and unexpected to define yourself by? If people can feel strongly about things as simple as crunchy vs. smooth peanut butter, what else can unite and divide us?
